ROK Entertainment Group, the mobile technologies, applications and services company, has partnered with digital media firm, AMS Interactive (AMSi) to develop web and mobile portals for the streaming of on-demand music.
Jonathan Kendrick, chairman and CEO of ROK, said: “We believe the future of music consumption is not through the traditional ownership of songs via download or through the purchase of CDs, but rather in what will become an ever-increasingly popular trend of ‘renting’ vast libraries of music from which listeners will be able to stream exactly the genre of music they want, on-demand, whenever and wherever they are through a variety of media, including the internet and mobile phones.”
ROK reportedly delivers mobile services, including the ROK TV which enables the stream of live and on-demand video to mobile phones over mass-market 2.5G as well as over 3G. ROK has launched its subscription-based mobile TV services with mobile operators worldwide.
Ed Seeger, chairman of AMSi, said: “We are thrilled to be working with ROK on this incredibly exciting initiative in mobile/web converged music delivery, as, together, we have the technology, the experience and the ability to build a new model for music delivery.”
AMSi deploys customisable audio content platforms for retail and corporate customers to deliver marketing messages at point of sale as well as providing online music delivery services featuring song skipping, favorites tracking, countdown channels and search features.
Kendrick further said: “We are working on several business models for the on-demand music streaming services we are developing with AMSi, to include advertising-funded and free-from-advertising subscription models, enabling people to have access to a massive library of music of all genres, anytime they wish and irrespective of their spending power.”
