Open source applications provider Red Hat has signed an agreement to acquire FuseSource, a provider of open source integration and messaging from Progress Software for undisclosed sum.

The acquisition will enable Red Hat to accelerate the delivery of application integration products and services to enterprise customers.

FuseSource will also enable Red Hat to enhance its capabilities within JBoss integration software. This technology complements the JBoss product line and will move Red Hat closer to the new application integration products.

Red Hat Middleware vice president and general manager Craig Muzilla said with the addition of FuseSource to its middleware portfolio, it will enable customers to experience enhanced integration capabilities and flexibility.

"FuseSource’s technologies, expertise, and commitment to open source make them a great fit," Muzilla said.

FuseSource provides open source integration and open source messaging products like Apache ServiceMix, Apache ActiveMQ, Apache CFX, and Apache Camel in the middleware setment.
