M86 Security, the rebranded Marshal8e6 content security company that came about through the merger of 8e6 Technologies, Marshal and Avinti, has set up a couple of product releases to mark the integration of its operations.

Upcoming releases of WebMarshal 6.5 flagged for early September and the launch of version 6.7 MailMarshal slated for the following month, are the first products to integrate technology from the Marshal and 8e6 Technologies merger and Avinti acquisition.

A main element of the latest release of WebMarshal is the integration of the former 8e6 Technologies filtering lists, Bruce Green, President of Marshal8e6 told us.

The company said it encompasses millions of URLs in 100+ Web site categories, and makes for more accurate Web blocking and filtering.

It is said to be an improvement on filtering lists that had previously been bought in from OEMs.

“We have also introduced TraceNet web threat protection to the system and introduced a proxy caching capability that many of our customers have been requesting,” Green said.

He went on to say that the company had also added SafeSearch screens for sites that could contain explicit sexual content and which deletes them from search results provided by the Google, Yahoo and Bing search engines.

The company said the upcoming MailMarshal release incorporates key technologies from the Avinti acquisition which provides businesses with protection against blended threats.

Avinti was acquired in April 2009 to add robust behavioural malware detection capabilities to the combined portfolio of Marshal8e6.

“The behavioural analysis technology effectively blocks malware ahead of any attack and we have built up a Blended Threat module which is cloud-based and which will be sold as an add-in subscription module,” Green explained.

He said the business had also introduced an IP reputation service for MailMarshal to add another layer of enterprise threat protection, and has also turned on a SpamBot detection service.

Pricing of the new additions has yet to be confirmed.

The new CEO at Orange County, California-based M86 John Vigouroux stems from Finjan, and before that worked with Tumbleweed, companies well known for their own inbound and outbound communications security product lines.

M86 Security targets enterprises and mid-sized organisations with a variety of deployments options for hardware, software and SaaS web security, and claims to have experienced record revenue in four of the first six months of 2009, adding 955 new customers and 775,000 seats.
