UK businesses said they will examine and update their technology with the hope of increasing business growth and competitiveness, according to research by SunGard Availability Services.
The survey of 253 IT decision makers from 250 enterprises found that 78% are undertaking technology improvements within the next three years, with 49% admitting that demand for flexible and mobile working policies had called for a change in IT requirements.
Another 46% said they had not examined their technology in the last three to five years and 40% believed that any IT changes would increase growth for their business.
When asked what they would look at if given the opportunity for a technology refresh, about 38% said they would accelerate cloud adoption, while 49% said improving flexbile and mobile working capabilities. Other priorities included updating current physical IT infrastructure (36%) and addressing security concerns (34%).
John Cridland, director general at the CBI, said: "Those companies that will succeed in the future will be those that understand how a technology transformation can provide the underlying platform for business growth"
The research also found that nearly half of respondents said that BYOD policies and IT systems near full capacity were pushing the need for a technology refresh
