US President Barack Obama may opt for a new Android-powered mobile phone as a replacement for BlackBerry, as the White House is testing Samsung and LG smartphones for internal use.
White House’s internal technology team and the White House Communications Agency are testing new smartphones from both companies, which is currently in the early stages, with the implementation still being ‘months away’, the Wall Street Journal revealed.
US Department of Defence (DOD) spokesman said: "We can confirm that the White House Communications Agency, consistent with the rest of the Department of Defense, is piloting and using a variety of mobile devices."
In contrary, Blackberry spokeswoman added: "For more than a decade, BlackBerry has been securing the U.S. government’s mobile communications and only BlackBerry is designed to meet the high-security needs of U.S. and allied government agencies."
In November 2013, DOD has been confirmed development of a department-wide app store and a system to secure mobile devices, including iPhones, iPads and Samsung smartphones and tablets, signifying declining focus on BlackBerry devices.
The Canadian smartphone maker lost its government user base as it experienced losses among consumers more extensively.
