Nokia is planning to release 3D printing files for its Lumia 820 smartphone which will enable users to create their own customised cases for the handset.
Nokia community and developer marketing manager John Kneelan said in a blogpost: "We are going to release 3D templates, case specs, recommended materials and best practices — everything someone versed in 3D printing needs to print their own custom Lumia 820 case."
"We refer to these files and documents collectively as a 3D-printing Development Kit, or 3DK for shor," Kneeland said.
To create the cases, users should have have access to a 3D printer and according to BBC printing in 3D includes sending a design file to a printer which will build it up in layers of plastic to form a solid version of that object.
The latest versions of 3D printers have the ability to produce multicoloured objects while the older versions produced only one colour objects.
Lumia 820, which was introduced in September last year, features a non-Pureview 8MP camera, a 0.2 front facing camera and offers 8GB storage capacity.
In December 2012, Nokia released its new Microsoft’s Windows 8 powered entry-level Lumia 620 smartphone.
