Parallels, a hosting and cloud services enablement provider, has announced the availability of Parallels Cloud Server as the only supported virtualisation solution for HP Moonshot, a workload-optimised server designed to run internet-scale applications.
Parallels Cloud Server delivers Parallels Containers virtualisation that advances the utilisation of HP Moonshot servers. The operating system virtualisation of Parallels Containers enables it to provide cost-effective, virtual servers on the HP Moonshot system.
HP Moonshot servers are designed and tailored for specific workloads, such as web hosting and web serving. The low-energy software-defined servers share traditional components, including networking, management, power and cooling capabilities, to reduce complexity, energy use and space. The HP Moonshot technology aims to be more efficient with faster innovation cycles.
Parallels Cloud Server allows HP Moonshot customers running the HP ProLiant m300 Server Cartridges to maximise their infrastructure investment by deploying multiple high density Parallels Containers on each Moonshot cartridge. Parallels Containers enables service providers to deliver multiple VPS and cloud server packages at varying levels of CPU, memory, disk I/O, and storage space.
John Zanni, chief marketing officer and vice president of Strategic Alliances at Parallels spoke to CBR about the benefits of HP Moonshot servers: "HP Moonshot System with its HP ProLiant Moonshot Server Cartridges is renowned for its efficiency – providing outstanding savings in energy, space, and purchase costs.
"By virtualizing HP Moonshot servers using Parallels Containers, businesses can take those efficiencies to all new levels. Rather than restrict each HP Moonshot Server Cartridge to one workload, Parallels Containers virtualization enables multiple workloads/applications on a single server cartridge, allowing businesses to maximize profitability and improve the performance of their HP Moonshot infrastructure."
