The professional social network with over 175 million members released some statistics about office tools on the brink of extinction.
LinkedIn surveyed more than 7,000 professional around the globe to find out which office supplies and tools will most likely not be in offices by 2017.
Tape recorders, fax machines and the rolodex were at the top of the list of soon to be extinct office tools.
"It’s no surprise to see the Rolodex gathering dust as the pace of technological innovation rapidly makes many workplace practices and tools redundant," said LinkedIn’s connection director, Nicole Williams. "The beauty of modern devices and platforms, such as LinkedIn, is that they constantly evolve to meet professionals’ needs, allowing them to connect more quickly and easily than ever before."
The top 10 Office trends expected to disappear in the next five years:
1. Tape recorders (79%)
2. Fax machines (71%)
3. The Rolodex (58%)
4. Standard working hours (57%)
5. Desk phones (35%)
6. Desktop computers (34%)
7. Formal business attire like suits, ties, pantyhose, etc. (27%)
8. The corner office for managers/executives (21%)
9. Cubicles (19%)
10. USB thumb drives (17%)
Over 50% of professionals said that tablets, cloud storage, flexible working hours and smartphones are office trends that will become more popular.
Respondents also reported that in an ideal world they would like to have a clone or assistant help out throughout the day (25%) a quiet place to nap (22%) and a mute button for co-workers they don’t want to have to hear talk (19%).
