Lenovo has launched a new version of Secure Managed Client (SMC) tool, which consists of SMC supported ThinkCentre desktop PCs with Intel vPro Technology, a Lenovo co-developed software stack and centralised Lenovo Storage Array Appliance.
According to the Lenovo, the SMC 2.0 tool includes includes features such as Pristine Image support, which allows an SMC 2.0 enabled PC to return to its original state with each time a user turns off the PC. It resets the image on the array to pristine states by removing viruses or malware and temporarily saved information such as files, passwords, and user unique information.
In addition, the SMC 2.0 offers IT managers data access by creating duplicate connection managers, allowing end users to continue logging into their desktop PCs even if the original client connection to the SMC Connection Manager in the data centre is not available. It also allows for array synchronous replication, a process that backs up user data on separate, redundant storage arrays as soon as user data is saved.
Other additions include, storage array auto detection to manage storage arrays on the network, expanded language support, and enhanced user experience with support for additional PC add-in cards such as quad monitor graphics, providing users with expandability options. The SMC 2.0 hypervisor also automatically delivers quality of service for VoIP applications, the company said.
