Virtual reality may be on the cards for Apple, following a job posting seeking a software engineer to develop apps for integration into its virtual reality platforms for prototyping and user testing.
The job posting on Apple’s site noted that the role would enable the candidate to take part in ‘collaborative and iterative UI design through the implementation phases & complete performant user experience code for product delivery’, according to Mashable.
"This engineer will create high performance apps that integrate with Virtual Reality systems for prototyping and user testing."
If Apple comes out with its own virtual reality headset, it would be in direct competition to similar products from Samsung’s Gear VR, Sony’s Project Morpheus, Oculus Rift and Google Cardboard.
The iPhone maker has been applying for patents associated with head-mounted displays since 2006, and has received approval for a multi-purpose goggle system.
Apple’s goggle system is claimed to enable users to view media such as television while travelling.
