IBM has unveiled a new portfolio of cloud computing products and services for the enterprise, that it claims, helps clients turn complex business processes into simple services.

According to IBM, the Smart Business cloud portfolio brings automation technology and self-service to specific digital tasks as diverse as software development and testing; desktop and device management; and collaboration.

The company said that the new offering is aimed at helping clients deal with new kinds of tasks and colossal data burdens in the data centre.

The IBM Smart Business portfolio includes three ways to deploy the cloud model, smart business standardised services on the IBM Cloud, smart business private cloud services behind the firewall built by IBM, and IBM CloudBurst service delivery platform, for clients to build to their own cloud with pre-integrated hardware and software.

All three offerings include IBM’s service management system, a kind of air traffic control system for IT which automates self-service, provisioning, monitoring as well as managing access and security for the cloud.

IBM Smart Business private cloud services for development & test as well as virtual desktops are available, while IBM CloudBurst is expected to join WebSphere CloudBurst in the family of pre-integrated systems and begin shipping on June 19, 2009.

IBM has invested more than $10 billion over the last five years in control and automation technologies.
