First texting zones, now ‘Car Mode’ apps.
Joey Cofone, a New York based designer, has developed ‘Car Mode’, a concept for an app that would come already integrated in iOS 7 on the iPhone.
When in ‘Car Mode’, no notifications of text messages would show up on the phone, but it would send an automatic message to the senders of the texts, informing them that they are currently unable to reply as they are driving. Once the ‘Car Mode’ is disabled, the user would be able to read and reply to texts as usual.
Hands-free phone calls and navigation such as Google Maps apps would still be enabled when in ‘Car Mode’.
It is often the case that temptation takes over; when you hear your phone buzzing telling you that you have a new text or Facebook notification, it can be extremely hard to resist and leave it for a while.
Cofone hopes that one day his company could partner with car insurance firms so that they can track and reward safe drivers.
If ‘Car Mode’ became a regular settings feature on iPhones, this app could help people resist temptation and focus on the road.
