Citrix Systems has signed a definitive agreement to acquire VMLogix, a provider of virtualisation management for private and public clouds.
Citrix said that the new acquisition will add key lifecycle management capabilities to its OpenCloud platform.
The company said that the acquisition will allow to add a self-service interface to its XenServer virtualisation platform, which enables end users to access and manage their own virtual computing resources in on-premise private cloud environments,.
Citrix also unveiled plans to expand its OpenCloud platform to include enhanced networking and interoperability capabilities.
These new additions will include the ability for customers to manage a mix of public and private cloud workloads from a single management console, even if they span across a variety of different cloud providers, the company said.
Citrix Networking and Cloud Product Group VP and GM Klaus Oestermann said that with the expanded capabilities of the OpenCloud platform for lifecycle management, cloud interoperability and cloud networking, they are further delivering on their core belief to provide true choice for their customers.
The acquisition of VMLogix is expected to close in the third quarter of 2010, subject to the satisfaction of closing conditions.
