Cisco has completed the acquisition of the cybersecurity application provider Sourcefire for about $2.7bn.
Following the deal, the networking major will offer advanced threat protection products as well as a set of enforcement and remediation options.
Both the companies’ customers are expected to benefit from Cisco’s plan to drive forward both the ASA and FirePOWER platforms.

With the acquisition, Sourcefire employees will join the Cisco Security Group led by Christopher Young, while Sourcefire founder and chief technology officer Martin Roesch will become vice president and chief architect for Cisco Security Group.
The networking equipment manufacturer also plans to open source its innovation and continue to offer support for Snort, ClamAV and other open source projects.
Cisco expects the acquisition will have slightly dilutive effect on the non-GAAP earnings in fiscal year 2014 due to normal purchase accounting adjustments and integration costs.
