AT&T and Xora have announced a GPS Locator application which, it claims, will provide small and medium-sized businesses with real-time visibility into the location of their mobile workforce.

According to AT&T, the new Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) application is based on technology from Xora’s GPS TimeTrack and is designed to enhance the productivity and accountability of field-based employees, as well as lower the expenses related to overtime and fuel costs.

AT&T said that the new application does not require any software to be loaded on the phone. It enables office staff to see the locations of the field-based employees using its web-based maps and reports.

The Xora web interface features Google Maps with street, satellite and hybrid views, as well as real-time traffic information. The web-based reports indicate where and when vehicles are stopped and for how long, to identify the time spent at job sites.

Sanjay Shirole, CEO of Xora, said: Once companies gain real-time visibility into the locations and activities of their mobile employees, it’s like someone took the blinders off. More importantly, as a result, companies can take action based on what they are seeing in order to improve the efficiency of their business.

Xora GPS Locator is expected to be available from AT&T at a monthly subscription of approximately $22 per device.
