App framework company Appcelerator’s joint survey with IDC shows that among 2,160 Appcelerator developers, Amazon’s Kindle Fire was the most popular choice in the Android tablet market in North America.
However, Samsung’s Galaxy Tab maintains its leadership position worldwide with the developers.
Developers cited price as the major reason for increasing interest in the Kindle Fire. Also, interest in Kindle Fire is just four points less compared to the interest in the iPad, when it was launched in April 2010.
Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 is ahead of RIM’s BlackBerry OS to be the three most popular mobile OS behind iOS and Android.
Scott Ellison, vice president, Mobile & Connected Consumer Platforms at IDC, says, "Amazon has shown exceptional early success in appealing to developers with the Kindle Fire showing that price and differentiation are keys to competing in the crowded Android tablet space, rather than simply chasing the iPad market."
Windows Phone 7 popularity with the European developers has increased thanks to its Nokia partnership.
But, iOS continues to maintain its top position with 91% of respondents saying they are "very interested" in developing for the iPhone, followed by the iPad at 88%.
