Personal navigation firm ALK Technologies has unleashed a new version of its CoPilot Live satellite navigation system for Android-based mobile phones.

According to ALK, the new version brings turn-by-turn GPS navigation technology and real-time travel information to the Android platform. It also provides detailed voice-guided turn instructions and 3D mapping to Android-based devices, including HTC Magic, HTC Dream and the new HTC Hero.

The company said that, a range of live services, delivered via the phone’s mobile internet connection include real-time traffic alerts, 5-day weather forecast information and a new location sharing service called CoPilot LiveLink which enables the users to view the location of other CoPilot friends.

Other features include phone integration, which allows the users to carry out direct dialling to POIs, location sharing through text and photo navigation.

In common with the Windows Mobile-based and Symbian product, CoPilot’s digital street maps are stored on the phone, rather than relying on mobile internet connectivity for per-trip data. Additional map regions can also be downloaded directly to the device.

CoPilot Live is available for download from Android Market for approximately $35.
