Alfresco Software, an open source enterprise content management provider, has unveiled Enterprise Edition 3.3, a new content services platform that offers integrations around IBM/Lotus social software, Microsoft Outlook, Google Docs and Drupal.

According to Alfresco, Enterprise 3.3 is an ECM system that offers development environment to support new business applications; flexible deployment options enabling content applications to be deployed on-premise, in the cloud or on the web; interoperability between business applications through open source and open standards; and the ability to link data, content, business process and context.

The Alfresco Content Application Server in Enterprise 3.3 provides a platform that enables organisations to build and deploy future-proof content-rich composite applications.

The advanced content formatting and transformation services allow organisations to repurpose content for delivery through multiple channels (web, smart phone, iPad, print, etc), while new datalist function can be used to track project related issues, to-dos, actions and tasks, supplementing existing commenting, social tagging, discussions and project sites.

In addition, Alfresco provides the ability for companies to replicate and deploy content and associated information, between content platforms. Using replication services, users can develop and then deploy content outside the firewall, to web servers and into the cloud.

John Newton, co-founder and chief technical officer at Alfresco, said: “CIOs are realising old monolithic ECM suites are failing to solve today’s content management needs and are seeking alternative and flexible platforms to compliment their corporate architectures.

“The latest iteration of Alfresco Enterprise extends the platform’s content services, enabling organisations to deploy composite content applications to support their business requirements.”
