XML optimisation software provider AgileDelta has released Efficient XML 4.0, which adds new features and support for the new version of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) Efficient XML Interchange (EXI) specification.

The company said it created the technology on which the EXI specification is based.

In addition to support for the Java and .NET platforms, Efficient XML 4.0 also introduces a low-power version of Efficient XML for native C/C++ applications, smart phones and embedded devices and a small footprint Efficient XML processor for Java-powered devices.

According to AgileDelta, Efficient XML optimises the bandwidth, CPU and power requirements of web services and web applications to new levels.

Independent tests by the W3C found Efficient XML perform better than data compression and packed binary protocols. For connected devices, these efficiencies translate to smaller, cheaper devices that have longer battery life. On wired networks, they translate to increased performance, lower bandwidth costs and reduced hardware requirements, AgileDelta claims.
