Virgin Media Business launches Microsoft Lync, which aims to allow for better communication and collaboration within organisations.

Combining the hosted communications software with the superfast connectivity of the Virgin Media Business fibre optic network, the telecoms provider is giving UK organisations the answer to meet their collaboration needs.

According to Ovum principal analyst Peter Hall, "The move by Virgin Media Business to offer a hosted Microsoft Lync solution reflects the growing demand from enterprises in the UK for unified communications delivered as a managed cloud service".

Microsoft Lync comes with several new features including; instant messaging, HD video conferencing, desktop sharing and hosted telephony. The multiple tools allows the users to stay connected, share documents and collaborate better, regardless of location or which device they use.

The service requires no upfront investment or fees based on usage and is designed for businesses looking to boost collaboration and reduce costs. Businesses are also able to let Virgin Media Business create a package that can be integrated into existing infrastructures, allowing businesses to experience the unified communications immediately without replacing entire systems at a great expense.

The service also aims to reduce supplier management costs. Having fewer suppliers for their communications services means organisations can rationalise their supplier costs and create tailored services which fit their employees.

Duncan Higgins, director of product and marketing, Virgin Media Business, said: "As individuals, we’re all different. We all work and learn in different ways. The days of employers creating a ‘one size fits all’ approach are coming to an end. In its place we’ll see more communications tools converge around the individual. It’ll put employees a step closer to achieving a better work/life balance whilst giving staff the tools to be more productive.

"The unified communications market is on the rise as businesses realise it can help them when dealing with numerous suppliers. Spinning fewer plates means they can concentrate on improving other areas of the business. Microsoft Lync is the ideal starting point on the path to achieving this."
