Ultra-Low cost smartphone shipment is expected to reach 200 million units by 2018, according to a report from Juniper Research.

According to the report, the market for ultra-Low cost smartphones is expected to occupy majority shares in the emerging markets in the future and its shipments would reach 10 million units in 2014.

The ultra-premium smartphone segment is however anticipated to decline in the future due to faster growth of its price points.

The report reveals that the ultra-premium smartphone market is currently led by Apple and Samsung, while HTC is trying to have consistent share in the market.

Middle part of the smartphone market is expected to change as the smartphone manufacturers would face competition from emerging markets with new producers like Xiaomi and Oppo.

The agency expected consumers as well as the established manufacturers to benefit from the extra competition in the ultra-premium smartphone segment and increasing rate of innovation.

The developing markets are also expected to offer better opportunities for new smartphone concepts to emerge.
