Sky Sports Live Football Score Centre
The iconic Sky Sports Saturday football-fest has made it to the iPhone. Sadly you don’t get to watch Jeff Stelling and the rest of the team as the goals fly in but it does keep you up to date with the live scores, results, fixtures, news, video and a pub finder to let you know the nearest place showing football in 3D.
You can also set your favourite team so their latest matches and news is always the first thing you see when you fire up the app. It’s not just limited to England’s leagues; it also features information from leagues all over Europe. The app is available free.
The app of choice for stats fans. It contains information from over 800 leagues, such as tables, results, news, live match information and historical information. It costs £1.49 and is available on iOS devices.
From the sports pages of the UK tabloid comes this footy app. It features news, analysis, videos and pictures and also contains opinion pieces from Mirror journalists such as Oliver Holt and Darren Lewis and football pundits such as Robbie Savage and Mark Lawrenson. You can personalise the homepage and share stories to Facebook and Twitter.
The free app also contains offline reading.
From the governing body of European football comes this free app packed with news, live scores, video highlights of Champions League Europa League games and information about international matches, such as qualifying for the 2012 European Championship.
It’s available free on Android and Apple devices.
This app lets you watch loads of different Sky channels on your Apple iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad. An Android version is rumoured for later this year. Sky customers who have Sky Sports 1 and 2 can use this to get the rest of the Sports channels, and the same goes for Movie customers.
This is another app that lets you watch live football, specifically coverage of the Europa League on Channel 5. Available free of charge it will stream matches right to your iPhone and also features extended highlights of matches, which are available for one week after the games are played.
Available on the iPhone as well as Android, Windows Phone, BlackBerry and Nokia’s Ovi, this great little app shows you video of goals and match action from every Premier League match, and like the Sky Sports Score Centre it also features live scores and match stats. Video content includes match previews and weekend roundups and can also send out alerts when videos are added. It is available free.
Quite a simple one this, but very useful. A complete list of live football matches on the TV, including channel information and kick-off time. As well as international games it covers all four English leagues and domestic cups, the Scottish leagues and cups, Champions League and Europa League and the top divisions in Spain, Italy and Germany. It also helpfully lets you set reminders and links to betting websites.
Football Manager Handheld 2011
The mega popular Football Manager game (from the same team that created Championship Manager) finally received a mobile app last year. The latest version lets you manage in 34 leagues from 11 countries and you can now move between countries within the game.
It’s not as in-depth as the desktop version, but that doesn’t take much away from the fun of the game. It’s quite pricey at £6.99 and is currently only available on the iOS platform.
Another one for those of you who want to get involved in the action when out and about. You can choose from 245 teams in 9 leagues with all the real player names and can play other mobile users via Bluetooth. Scored a spectacular goal? You can upload it to YouTube and show off to all your friends. The game also features historic challenges, which let you relive great games in football’s past.
