Enterprise-grade cloud computing offerings are either currently employed by 75% of companies or planned to implement enterprise-grade cloud over the next five years, according to a new study by cloud infrastructure and hosted IT offerings provider Savvis.
The Enterprise-Grade Cloud Computing Adoption: Trends and Purchase Requirements report revealed that IT usually identifies projects and areas that could benefit from cloud and informs the business.
However, out of 172 chief technology officers surveyed, 23% of respondents reported that business leaders sometimes bypass IT and purchase offerings on their own.
The report said that 60% consider it extremely or very challenging to find the right cloud computing offering for their companies, and 69% perceive cloud computing offerings as offering greater flexibility.
Further, 64% expect spending on hosted, on-demand and/or cloud-based software at their companies to increase over the next year while 62% rate security as a critical factor when evaluating cloud offerings.
The study showed that as enterprises look to move mission-critical applications to the cloud, many are concerned with the privacy and security of their data, and the performance of their cloud-based applications.
