BRAINIAC TUESDAY
Neil degrasse Tyson, ‘rockstar’ astrophysicist and celeb scientist, give us a rundown of the top 10 reasons to love science. If Neil himself wasn’t a good enough reason, the ten examples are some pretty convincing stuff.
Advertising as a plug for new a new series ‘Cosmos’ (a sequel to Sagan’s original ground-breaking series), the playlist will hopefully "inspire you to pursue your own curiosities."
The video starts off by looking at what happens to dripping water in space, and moves through amazing scientific nuggets like the Northern Lights, Felix Baumgartner’s supersonic freefall and quantum levitation.
All of the top ten have a link through to the full video, with a particular highlight being excerpts from talks by Carl Sagan on science and the future of humanity in "The Sagan Series."
Particularly stirring stuff, if you wasn’t already a convert then this video does a good job!
Headsqueeze Ball Pit High Dive
Explore the science behind viscosity as a free runner dives 10m into a ball pit at the BritishMuseum.
In this Brainiac Tuesday video, Head Squeeze teams up with the parkour channel Flow to bring to you an impressive stunt. Blue Joseph jumps the same height as an Olympic diver into a pool of 60,000 balls, whilst resident daredevil scientist Greg Foot unpacks the science of falling from a great height.
Greg looks at how kinetic energy is transferred and shows you how to catch an egg on a plate without breaking it. Not the most advanced stuff, but a worthwhile watch if you have a spare few minutes. Might be handy too the next time you decide to jump from a height.
In an entertaining medley of videos from around Youtube, James May shows us his top 10 science experiments you can do at home.
Highlights include how to make glass invisible (amazing!), how to make a cloud in a bottle and my favourite – how to make match rockets.
