The Huawei Mate 9 has been announced and it is already being touted as a possible alternative to the axed Samsung Galaxy Note 7.

The devices sold like hot cakes following their release this summer but had to first be recalled and eventually discontinued after the batteries were reported to be overheating and catching fire.

Could the Huawei Mate 9 fill the void? CBR compares the devices across a range of categories.

1. Performance

The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 featured 4GB of RAM with an octa-core processor, featuring four each of the 2.3 GHz Mongoose and the 1.6 GHz Cortex-A53.

The stats are almost identical for the Huawei, although the 2.3 GHz Mongoose has been upped to a 2.4 GHz Cortex-A73.

Both have 64GB of internal storage.

Huawei will ship with the latest version of the Android operating system, Nougat, which the Samsung model would have upgraded to when it arrived.

2. Graphics and camera

On the camera front, Huawei compares well against the Note 7, with dual 20 MP and 12 MP primary cameras and an 8 MP secondary camera.

5. Features

The main difference in features is that the Note 7 worked with a stylus, making it suited to design and creative industries.
