The number of type-1 or type-2 smartphone virtualisation activations is expected to increase 20 times, reaching more than eight million by 2018, according to a report form ABI Research.
Smartphone virtualisation activations are expected to grow 114% year over year (YoY) with North America and Western Europe regions witnessing largest number of smartphone activations.
According to the report, Asia-Pacific region is expected to lead the growth with an increase of about 50 times representing 165% CAGR growth YoY.
ABI Research senior analyst Jason McNicol said that the mobility management space continues to amaze as it seems new enterprise mobility applications emerge daily.
"The latest solution now involves virtualisation, where a type-1 or type-2 hypervisor is used to create two distinct profiles on the user’s mobile device, work and personal," McNicol added.
"However, only recent technology advancements have permitted the use of virtualisation in mobile devices.
"As this technology gains acceptance over the next few years, enterprises will have yet another workspace management tool available to them for managing devices in a BYOD world."
The report revealed that the VMware expanded its smartphone hypervisor offering with Horizon Workspace 1.5, but the shipment volumes are not expected to increase until 2014 on Android devices.
