SAP and Bosch have signed an agreement in partnership for Internet of Things and Industry 4.0. They are to connect things such as cordless screwdrivers to the internet.

The companies announced they will combine both Bosch’s platform and SAP’s backend software, in order to connect vehicles, manufacturing tools and so on.

Plans have also aroused that strategies will go ahead to allow customers to use SAP HANA database in the Bosch IoT cloud. The aim is to process large quantities of data for IoT applications in real time.

The two companies have said that the Bosch IoT microservices will be available on SAP’s HANA cloud platform as a way to connect different devices and components together.

One example of the two companies’ cooperation together is positional data for forklifts and increasing the transparency and efficiency in logistics.

SAP and Bosch have identified the purpose being to always offer customers new, smart services.

The systems developed by the two companies have strong focus on data security and privacy.

The approach promises to speed up the process of manufacturing and logistics, and also increase the safety and quality of products and services for customers.

Dr. Volkmar Denner, CEO of Bosch said:

“In order to make even better use of the major potential that connected industry holds, international companies must cooperate more closely than before, and they must base that cooperation on open standards.”

The companies also revealed that they aim to develop further solutions in areas like automated and connected driving, as they two areas known to produce great quantities of data, which must be evaluated quickly and reliably.

Both companies are also known to protect customer data with efficient technology, allowing customers to decide themselves whether to make personal data viewable and when it should also be deleted.

Denner added: “Bosch can draw on extensive sensor systems experience in the areas of mobility, manufacturing, consumer goods, and connectivity. By combining all this, we aim to help our customers generate new sales.”
