Samsung has announced that it will be selling its fibre optics business to Corning Inc, a US firm which supplies glass panels for smartphones and other devices.
Financial details of the sale were not disclosed, but the deal does include the handing over of Samsung’s fibre factories in both China and South Korea.
Corning, the firm behind iPhone glass screens, has been the panel supplier for Apple since 2007, and most recently launched Gorilla Glass 4.
The sale will boost Corning’s growing telecommunications division. The firm has been producing optical fibre since 1970
