Riverbed Technology, an IT infrastructure performance company for networks, applications and storage, has launched a new Interceptor 9350 appliance and an enhanced software, which it claims to allow enterprise customers to scale their WAN optimisation system to support hundreds of thousands of end users and very large bandwidth WAN connections across an enterprise.
According to Riverbed, the new Interceptor is a clustering device for Steelhead appliance deployments, which extends their scaling and performance capabilities to meet the requirements of very large data centre environments. It automatically works with the full IP address, port transparency features in Steelhead appliances and allows clusters of up to 25 Steelhead appliances to work together.
Riverbed said that the new appliance, in comparison to the previous model, provides up to 3X more throughput while still supporting up to one million concurrent connections. It supports up to 12Gbps of ingress and egress traffic, and up to three 10G network interface cards (NIC) for latest data centre designs, the company said.
In addition, the new Interceptor can be configured with up to four onboard and 16 additional gigabit ethernet ports to provide scalability on networks with multi-router ingress/egress, the company said.
In the event of a hardware or software failure, the Interceptor appliances provide high-availability to ensure uninterrupted optimisation operations. It supports fail-to-block, which enables the network to route around the failure; and the multi-interface clustering that provides customers with additional redundancy options to ensure that no single link failure can cause the loss of connectivity between the Interceptor and the Steelhead appliance in the cluster, Riverbed said.
Alan Saldich, vice president of product marketing at Riverbed, said: The new Interceptor 9350 is designed to provide increased benefits, including simplified deployment into complex and very large data centre environments, more choices for high-availability configurations, and increased scalability. The 10G NIC coupled with the tripling of the performance of the Interceptor 9350 positions Riverbed to integrate seamlessly into our customer data centre networks.
