Christmas sales online in 2010 in the UK hit £2.8bn as nearly 44% of adults have increased their online shopping since 2009, a new report has revealed.
The report about the e-commerce industry by online customer experience firm Tealeaf has found that 58% of online shoppers claimed they found shopping on the Internet a more convenient way to do their Christmas buying.
About 52% said the surge in online shopping is because it reduces shopping stress and works out cheaper than regular shopping even after adding the additional postage and packaging expenses.
Other research reports also have predicted similar trends in online shopping earlier this year, according to various media reports.
In November, computer security firm Symantec predicted that online sales during Christmas of 2010 as £7.5bn, while industry body IMRG and payment processor Retail Decisions predicted earlier in 2010 that online sales would rise to £12.4bn in November and December.
