Japan’s NTT Communications has announced that it will launch a global hosting service that creates office PC environments which are accessible from anywhere using a USB key.
The service, named Virtual Office Hosting, will be provided under NTT Communications’s (NTT Com’s) BizCITY model for enterprise services that customers access from anyplace at anytime.
According to NTT Com, the new service is expected to enable employees to replicate their office computer’s desktop environment at home, in a domestic or remote office, or a shared PC in a hotel business center. Users will need to insert a personalized ‘MagicConnect’ USB key into their remote PC to access office e-mail and run office applications and groupware on a virtual PC hosted with VMware Infrastructure 3 virtualization technology at NTT Com’s data center in Hong Kong.
Virtual Office Hosting will be available initially in mainland China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.
Service options will include applications such as Microsoft Office, messaging (mail, scheduler and groupware), antivirus software, data backup and virtual PC management.
