Twitter users in France will soon be able to tweet money to each other through S-money service developed by French bank Groupe BPCE.
To be launched later this month, the new feature is not restricted to Groupe BPCE customers, but anyone with a Twitter account and a bank card in France will be able to perform money transfers via Twitter for free.
The bank has not released many details of the service, but said that payment by tweets will be managed by BPCE’s mobile payments unit S-Money service.
S-Money service is currently responsible for managing money transfers via text message.
Twitter is in competition with Apple and Facebook, who are also reportedly working on similar features.
S-Money CEO Nicolas Chatillon said: "The ease of use and immediacy of the S-Money payment solution for individuals is perfectly adapted to the Twitter user experience.
"It offers Twitter users in France a new way to send each other money, irrespective of their bank and without having to enter the beneficiary’s bank details, with a simple Tweet. We plan to make this new service available to the general public in early October."
Twitter previously launched "Twitter Buy" button which allows users to buy listed products through tweets.
