Microsoft is reportedly planning to introduce its own SIM card to connect its devices to various mobile network operators without the need for a contract.
The company is testing a "Cellular Data app" that will allow users to connect to a trusted nationwide mobile network even where there is no WiFi connection.
Users will be able to connect to and pay for a mobile data plan on their Windows 10 device using only their Microsoft account information.
Users will be able to buy a plan via Windows Store and connect to the internet using a secure, high-speed mobile connection.
The company highlighted that the app will only function with specific Windows 10 devices and requires a Microsoft SIM card.
With the latest initiative the company will be able to provide users with easier access to the internet and users will not have to depend upon a particular carrier.
Microsoft said: "Service is available in some markets and offers are for domestic plans only – international roaming offers will be available soon."
