McGraw-Hill and Wipro are planning to launch a new educational tool for students in the emerging markets.

By making the tool, dubbed "mConnect", accessible to rural users, the companies are making an attempt to benefit from the potential opportunities in emerging markets.

The product will be launched in India and offer preparation material for university entrance exams. It will be available via cell phone, laptop and other mobile devices.

McGraw-Hill chairman, president and chief executive Terry McGraw said the product is expected to be available this summer.

According to McGraw-Hill, about 100 million rural Indian youth use mobile phones. McGraw said the platform will work on the 2G network on which most of the phones operate.

The two companies plan to extend the program to other countries in Asia and Africa.

McGraw said the company hasn’t yet determined pricing for the program.

The two companies already partner on Connect, a product that offers web-based learning to college students and professors in the US.
