Imagination Technologies has upgraded its Raspberry Pi rival micro-computer, the Creator CI20, by redesigning its hardware and software.

The redesigned Creator CI20 board includes an improved board layout, which will help optimise Wi-Fi speed and stability.

The company has also added support for Imagination’s FlowCloud IoT platform.

By making the CI20 board compatible with the FlowCloud IoT platform, Imagination has made it easy for developers to develop IoT applications.

FlowCloud will also give users device-to-cloud infrastructure and services which will also help IoT innovators to develop new applications including robotics, industrial monitoring and home automation.

Imagination highlighted that its FlowCloud is already working on MIPS-based development boards, which includes chipKIT Wi-FIRE chip.

Imagination has also updated Creator CI20 with the latest Android 4.4 and Linux operating systems to improve user experience.

For Android OS, the company has added new built-in ethernet settings, audio over HDMI and Bluetooth, and audio recording, along with audio jack auto-detection.

For Linux users, the company is planning to upgrade the software to kernel version 3.18 which is expected to enhance memory speed and graphics of the Creator CI20 board.

Imagination marketing EVP Says Tony King-Smith said: "Adding FlowCloud compatibility for Creator CI20 is an exciting step for our burgeoning development board range – and we’re upgrading Wi-Fi performance, software and form factor as well.

"We believe these new features should really capture the imagination of our substantial and growing ecosystem of Creator partners, inspiring new levels of innovation."

According to Imagination, the upgraded Creator CI20 board is apt for applications that requires high performance Linux or Android platform like home automation, gaming, and wireless multimedia streaming.
