IBM has revealed that all of its future cloud services and software will be based on the open-source architecture.
As a first step in this direction, the company has introduced a new private cloud tool called SmartCloud Orchestrator, which is based on open-source cloud architecture and open sourced OpenStack software.
The tool allows developing and managing a single cloud infrastructure that comprises resources by a variety of providers.
The new offerings would allow end-users and customers to purchase various equipments from contributing members of the OpenStack software group.
Additionally, the tool would trim-down operational costs by automating application deployment and life cycle management in the cloud as well as allow lining up compute, storage and network resources in a simple-to-use interface.
The tool will also simplify the end user consumption of cloud services through a spontaneous self service portal that allows measuring the cost of cloud services with metering and charge-back capabilities.
In addition, the company has also introduced new versions of software, including SmartCloud Monitoring Application as well as two new beta programs that use analytics to forecast modifications in scale and usage.
IBM has also integrated its SmartCloud ControlDesk and Endpoint Manager, through open-standard OSLC, to automate and extend the ability to manage cloud services for compliance, regulation, and security to various end points or devices.
