IBM has launched a new application, Software Defined Network for Virtual Environments (SDN VE) which is claimed to help organisations set up, manage and scale virtual networks for faster delivery of cloud, analytics, mobile and social business services.
The IBM SDN VE is based on the company’s Distributed Overlay Virtual Ethernet (DOVE) architecture and automates network virtualisation.
The application is also claimed to allow network administrators to reduce the time taken by the tasks like network provisioning from days to hours.
IBM System Networking Development vice president Inder Gopal said that the company’s vision of the Software Defined Environment is one of an intelligent data-driven ecosystem that is easily managed and scaled to meet ever-changing market demands.
"The SDN VE is a solid, necessary step toward that future," Gopal added.
Software Defined Networking (SDN) allows IT administrators to design and manage the control of network switches – which forward data through an enterprise – from the switches to an extensible software platform with open interfaces.
