Huawei, a provider of telecommunications network offerings, has unveiled the Hitless Adjustment of ODUflex (G.HAO) prototype.

The new ODUflex (G.HAO) prototype allow operators to improve the management of bandwidth resources by using only the level of bandwidth necessary for services such as video, storage, and data.

Huawei said that the Traditional Optical Transport Network outdoor units (OTN ODUs) provide a fixed amount of bandwidth for a certain service, regardless of the actual bandwidth requirements of that service, resulting in waste of an operator’s already limited bandwidth.

However, the new prototype enables current technology to flexibly configure ODU size and bandwidth needs without affecting service.

The company said that with ODUflex, a low-demand service no longer wastes excess bandwidth or occupies an entire ODU, instead ODUflex enables the efficient scaling of bandwidth to actual bandwidth demand, thus freeing up bandwidth resources and boosting transport efficiency.

In addition, Hitless Adjustment of ODUflex prototype achieves efficient ODUflex transport, enhances the synergy between the IP and optical layers, and further improves the flexibility of Huawei’s SingleBackbone offering.

Huawei transport network product line president Christian Chua said Hitless Adjustment of ODUflex technology is a breakthrough for OTN network IP service and will be a milestone in OTN evolution.
