A US judge has ordered Google, Yahoo, Twitter and Facebook, along with other search engines and social networks, to remove links to websites selling fake goods.
According to the BBC, Judge Dawson of the Nevada US District Court also told Facebook, Twitter and Google to remove the links from their social networks.
The search engines and social networks will be notified, if the court finds that the sites are authorised to be reinstated.
The judge has ordered registrar GoDaddy.com to take control of these sites and block their access.
Meanwhile several House members of the US Congress are pushing for a controversial bill that would crack down on these "rogue" websites, which deal in counterfeit and pirated goods.
Chanel’s counterfeit investigative team had identified the fraudulent websites by ordering goods from them following which it determined them to be fakes.
But many experts are questioning as to how much jurisdiction the court would have over domains that had been registered outside of the US.
