GE has has expanded its smart grid software portfolio by acquiring Australia-based data migration and SCADA simulation provider Opal Software.

GE said that the acquisition of Opal allows its Digital Energy business to deliver greater operational and network productivity to utility customers and increase development speed and delivery of new offering.

In addition, the Opal Software team will improve GE’s ability to support growth in the Asia Pacific region by providing increased local workforce and technology.

With the acquisition, Opal Software’s employees will join GE’s Digital Energy business and the Asia Pacific team.

GE Digital Energy business Asia region general manager Matt McKenzie said by the acquisition of Opal Software will allow help secure GE as a smart grid technology provider and meet the needs of Asia Pacific region.
