EMC and Vodafone Ireland have launched an innovation platform for advanced industrial Internet of Things (IoT) development and testing.
The platform, dubbed Infinite, is spread across three datacentres, one hosted by EMC, another by Vodafone, and other by datacentre and cloud provider Cork Internet eXchange (CIX).
Businesses can use the platform to test solutions for the IoT in manufacturing, fleet management, machinery, household appliances, and even clothing that features sensors linked to the internet.
The platform features technologies, domains and platforms to assist businesses in introducing major enhancements in cloud, networks, mobile, wireless, edge gateways, sensors and analytics.
It will be available for organisations that plan to create products, reducing their cost and development time.
EMC and Vodafone are jointly investing about €2m in the Infinite initiative, which they claim is the first large scale project approved for use by the Industrial Internet Consortium.
EMC Research Europe head Donagh Buckley said: " Infinite will play a key national and international role enabling innovation, insights and business opportunities for Industrial IoT developments across a wide range of industries.
"We have created a state-of-the-art cloud and analytics platform for IoT services which will provide the technologies, processes and best practices that will enable reliable and trustworthy solutions for hyper-connected industries."
Vodafone Ireland CEO Anne O’Leary said: "IoT has the potential to transform business in Ireland and we are excited to be in a position to provide companies with access to start developing their own IoT services."
