Google has published a patent application for using holograms in a head mounted display like Google Glass, in a move which is expected to turn into a feature of the tech giant’s smart eyegear.
Initially filed in March 2014, the patent reads: "An optical apparatus for a head wearable display includes a lightguide, in-coupling holograms, and an out-coupling optical element.
"The lightguide includes an in-coupling region for receiving display light into the lightguide, an out-coupling region for emitting the display light out of the lightguide, and a relay region for guiding a path of the display light from the in-coupling region to the out-coupling region."
The integration can allow Google to offer augmented reality (AR) experiences through superimposition of computer-generated imagery (CGI) over the real world.
In January, Google had announced about shutting down its Glass Explorer programme, but had been working on an upgraded Google Glass 2.
