Corning has introduced Gorilla Glass 4, which claims to be two times stronger than glass available from competitors.
Corning claim that the glass makes devices fall proof, enabling them to withstand screen breakages that occur from everyday accidents.
Corning scientists developed new drop-test methods to determine the resistance of the glass against damage, claiming that the glasssurvived 80% of the time.
The extra resistance does not affect the durability, thinness and optical clarity of the glass which remains the same as that of its predecessors.
Corning senior vice president James R. Steiner said: "Corning Gorilla Glass has outperformed competing materials, such as soda-lime glass and other strengthened glass, since it was introduced in 2007, and we’re always innovating to push the limits of what glass can do.
"With Gorilla Glass 4, we have focused on significantly improving protection against sharp contact damage, which is the primary reason that mobile devices break. Dropping and breaking a phone is a common problem, and one that our customers have asked us to help address."
According to Corning, Gorilla Glass is used in more than 3 billion devices which include iPhone displays.
