Blackberry has created a new business unit called BlackBerry Technology Solutions, which will combine some of its innovative technologies including QNX, Project Ion, Paratek and Certicom along with 44,000 patents.
The BlackBerry Technology Solutions will be led by Sandeep Chennakeshu, who has more than 25 years of experience of working in semiconductors and wireless sectors.
The new unit consists of Project Ion which creates platform to facilitate secure machine-to-machine communication required by the companies involved in creating Internet of Things applications.
Certicom, Paratek and QNX are also part of the new division that is used to secure communication and embedding applications.
Blackberry has been trying to provide superior mobile security technology than its rivals, and with the new division the company might be trying to set a benchmark for its rivals.
Blackberry CEO John Chen said "QNX, Certicom and Paratek are strategic and technically innovative assets with significant potential to address the much wider global markets for secure, reliable communications and embedded applications."
