Augmentra has recently launched a new version of its ViewRanger mapping and navigation software by including detailed topographical maps from National Mapping Agencies. Users can select and immediately download the maps over a GPRS or wireless connection directly on to a mobile phone handset.

The multimedia video guide will guide the mobile phone users along the wall built by Emperor Hadrian between Bowness on Solway in the West and Wallsend in the East in AD122. The partners say that the guide is the first product to offer location-based multimedia package.

The guide includes video highlights presented by writer and broadcaster Anthony Burton, and 1:25000 scale Ordnance Survey mapping along and around the Hadrian’s Wall Path National Trail.

The GPS facility enables relevant clips to play spontaneously when the right points in the trail are reached. The clips, which can also be browsed, have been produced by TVWalks and are presented by Burton.

The guide integrates video-enabled GPS waypoints into the maps. The route and waypoints are clearly marked on an interactive map. Points-of-interest along the route are also highlighted.

The guide is available to download for £19.99 at www.viewranger.com/hadrianswall and www.tvwalks.com.
