AT&T has announced that its entire eastern Connecticut wireless network has been enhanced to its third generation (3G) wireless broadband technology.
The company has been working on 3G expansion plans in the state since three years and has added 3G technology to 120 remaining cell sites in Hartford, Middlesex, New Haven, New London, Tolland and Windham Counties. The company has invested nearly $850m from 2006 to 2008.
Ramona Carlow, president, AT&T Connecticut, said: We are thrilled to provide nearly continuous AT&T 3G wireless access for consumers and business customers across Connecticut. While this investment represents a significant milestone, we are never finished investing in our network and look forward to bringing even more extensive wireless coverage to our Connecticut customers in the future as well.
AT&T also plans to bring 3G technology to 20 additional cell sites in Litchfield County. In addition to building out its wireless network in Connecticut, AT&T also plans to expand AT&T U-verse(SM) to more towns later this year.
AT&T also plans to upgrade its 3G network, which is expected to begin later this year.
