Apple has reportedly acquired keyboard app development start-up Dryft, in a deal which is likely to have taken place last year.
Dryft CTO Randy Marsden’s LinkedIn profile also confirms the news, which shows that he joined Apple back in September as iOS keyboard manager.
The company made virtual keyboards that appears only when the user touches the device screen.
TechCrunch cited Apple as saying that it buys smaller technology companies from time to time, and does not generally discuss its purpose or plans.
Apple has been allowing developers to tweak its devices’ keyboard by allowing start-ups like Swype and SwiftKey to create custom keyboards for the iPhones running on iOS8.
Apart from Dryft, the company also acquired Ottocat, which reportedly helped the iPhone maker to improve search and navigation functions, but again the company kept the deal under wraps.
