Amazon is hiring 100,000 seasonal workers in order to meet increasing customer demand this holiday season.

The temporary workers will be hired across the company’s US network of fulfillment and sortation centres and will give support to the 90,000 permanent employees at its 70 warehouses and shipping facilities across the country.

The company has hired more than 25,000 full-time employees across the US in recent months.

Amazon vice president of North America operations Mike Roth said: "Following last year’s holiday season, tens of thousands of seasonal employees found regular, full-time roles with Amazon."

Amazon is planning to release a 6-inch tablet at a price of $50 in time for the holiday shopping season.

The price is half of the retailer’s existing 6-inch device, Fire tablet, which costs $99.

Amazon’s Prime FREE Same-Day Delivery programme is now serving over 750 cities and towns across 16 metro areas in the US.

The company said members shopping on Amazon.com can select from over a million items available for same-day delivery.
