Alcatel-Lucent has completed the deployment of a 3G+ network for the mobile operator SRR. The first phase of this UMTS/HSPA wireless network deployment was made in 2008 mostly in Reunion’s Saint-Denis commune and in the island’s main towns.
Under the terms of the agreement, Alcatel-Lucent designs, deploys, and maintains an end-to-end 3G network including UMTS Radio Access Network and its distributed Node B system, its NGN (Next Generation Network) system consisting of the Alcatel-Lucent Wireless Call Server and Media Gateway, the intelligent network services and application platforms and the advisory and design services for wireless optimization.
Alcatel-Lucent is also expected to supply its new generation microwave transmission system for mobile backhaul applications and to support the transport of voice and data traffic from the base stations to the core network. In addition Alcatel-Lucent is solely responsible for the maintenance of the operator’s network.
Pierre-Antoine Legagneur, network technical director at SRR, said: We are extremely proud to be the first to deploy an Alcatel-Lucent 3G network in Reunion; with it we will be able for the first time to offer our customers new high-speed user-centric services, thanks to Alcatel-Lucent’s unrivalled UMTS radio access solution.
