Telecom equipment supplier Alcatel-Lucent and the RATP Group, the French public transport operator, have collaborated to provide a range of broadband communications services to better security, safety and travel experience for passengers on Line 1 of the Paris Métro.
Line 1 is said to be the busiest line in Paris Metro’s subway system.
Line 1 metro will benefit from real-time video train control, video surveillance and operational data transfer between trains and the control centre, it is reported. In addition, a new ground-to-train data transfer system (TDST) will allow real-time monitoring of the flow of data between the driverless trains and central control.

Our expertise in this industry meant we were able to provide a highly efficient solution to transform RATP’s network and deploy it without disrupting daily operation."
This agreement allowed Alcatel-Lucent to deliver a complete end-to-end integrated system with full Wi-Fi coverage over 18 km of track for Paris Métro system’s Line 1 including services such as design and integration.
In addition, Alcatel-Lucent provided an on-board interface connecting all subsystems including video-surveillance cameras, and multimedia screens located in train carriages.
